Skyline 18 RoShamBo

Tony Kille
18 RoShamBo Head Coach & Skyline Programs and Events Coordinator

Coaching Philosophy:
"I believe that training the basic fundamentals of the game is key to any program.  My main focus in practices and games is that defense wins.  Having great ball control, a well-balanced, quick offense has brought my teams to the next level. My goal and desire is to win, but I like to focus on improving the girls as well for their futures."

About Tony:
Tony went to Lake Worth High School where he excelled in both Tennis and Basketball.  With his state-ranked ability in Tennis, he decided to use that talent to pick up volleyball.  From there he started to coach under Rick Johansen at TNT volleyball club.  He led his 16's team his first year to winning big tournaments such as Peachtree and coming in third at Cajunland.  From 2001-2006 Tony was the head coach at Ft. Worth Temple Christian where they were state champs 2001-2004 and NACA National Runner-up in 2004. In 2005, he was again awarded NACA Coach of the Year as his team won the NACA National Championships. He received coach of the year his first two years in TAPPS 4-A and was also selected as coach of the year by the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Tony is also involved with his Men's team who has played in both open and AA division for 13 years.  There he helped lead his team to finishing fifth in the nation four out of the last eight years, and he was chosen as third-team All-American in 1996.  In 2003, Tony led his15 National team to an open berth at the Junior Olympic Nationals by taking 3rd place at the Lone Star Classic National Qualifier. In 2004, he led his 17 RoShamBo team to a 4th place finish at the Northeast Qualifier in Baltimore, a first place finish at the North Texas Regionals where he qualified for nationals and a fifth place finish at Junior Olympic Nationals. In 2005 Tony led his 18 RoShamBo to an open bid to Nationals, a #1 ranking in the state of Texas and a 19th place finish in the Nation. In 2006, he led his 16 RoShamBo team to an open bid at Nationals and a 27th place finish in the Nation. Tony is going into his eighth year with Skyline Juniors after leading his 17 RoShamBo team to an open bid this last year at the Southern California Qualifier, a 3rd place finish in open at AAU Nationals, and a 22nd place finish in the nation. Tony joined the Skyline staff this past year full time as the Program and Events Coordinator.

Becca Smajstrla
18 RoShamBo
Assistant Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
“I want to help athletes who give everything they have in practices and matches so they never have to say ’woulda, shoulda, coulda’. When each individual gives 100% effort 100% of the time, the score will take care of itself. Working hard makes a strong person, a solid athlete, and a winner hands down.”

About Becca:
Becca was raised in Red Oak where she played volleyball for Aurthur Stanfield for three years. She received a full scholarship to Navarro Junior College where she was an All-Conference Selection both years as an outside hitter. After Navarro, she went to St. Edward’s University and played libero for a semester. She then finished her playing career at Texas Weslayan University. She helped lead her team to a championship with the Red River Athletic Conference and an appearance at the National Tournament where her team finished with an outstanding 5th place finish. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan with a degree in Kinesiology and a Physical Fitness Specialist Certificate from the Cooper Institute. Becca has coached several years of club volleyball and camps with clubs around the area such as TNT, Mid Cities, TAV and Skyline Juniors. Becca currently resides in Melissa with her husband Mark. Becca is a part-time personal trainer at Express Fitness in Allen and is also the Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach for Prestonwood Christian Academy. Becca is going into her third season with Skyline after assisting her 16 RoShamBo team to a J.O. National appearance this past season. Her husband Mark is a police officer for the City of Allen and they are expecting their first child this January.

Skyline 18 National

Joy Engeldinger
18 National
Head Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
"I enjoy working with young athletes, and I think every person deserves a chance. Every athlete should be given the opportunity to succeed. I love being around juniors, and I enjoy challenging them to become the best athlete they can."

About Joy:
Joy is heading into her fifth season with Skyline Juniors. Prior to moving to Dallas she was the head volleyball coach at Clifton High School for 11 years. She was given the opportunity to open and run a fitness center in the Las Colinas area, and made the move to the Dallas five years ago. After finishing her collegiate athletic career and graduating from Midwestern State University, she took the job at Clifton High School to develop a competitive volleyball program.  The first three years she spent developing a fundamentally sound program. The fourth year they competed in the State Tournament.  During her time there, she accumulated an overall record of 214 wins and 52 losses, with eight consecutive District Championships and only one district loss.  She also led her team to six Regional Tournament appearances. She was also involved with club volleyball where she assisted in coaching with Waco Juniors for two years. Joy has assisted several of our top coaches at Skyline. While doing so, she has led her 16 National team to a fourth place finish in the North Texas Region in 2005 and assisting the 16 National team to many successful finishes in 2006. She is coming off a very successful year after coaching with Tony Kille and assisting the 18 National team in 2007.

Beth Skypala
18 National
Assistant Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
"I am a strong believer in fundamentals; they are the building blocks for becoming a great player and they are the core of a great team. I believe that discipline and a solid defense is the difference between being a great team or a championship team. My goal is to create a disciplined, yet positive and encouraging atmosphere when I coach because I believe a player performs their best in that environment."

About Beth:
Beth is coming to Skyline after a very successful playing career at Texas A&M University. While at A&M, she was an outside hitter and a defensive player. In 2003 she was awarded the best defensive player by her coach and was 6th in the Big 12 for digs per game. Prior to A&M, she attended Amarillo High School where she won a State Championship in 1998 with a school record of 39-0. She was awarded the most prestigious high school award, MVP of the State Tournament. Beth was also part of the very well know Amarillo Elite Volleyball Club (formerly known as Amarillo Juniors). While participating there, her team won both the Mideast Qualifier and the Tampa Qualifier in 1998. She finished 10th in the 16 Open division in 1998, and 18th in the Open division in 1999. Beth has excelled not only as a player but has furthered her love for the game as a coach. She has coached various summer camps and clinics with a few including Texas A&M, Skyline Juniors and Arbor Academy in Amarillo. She coached with Amarillo Elite in 2005. She also was a Graduate Assistant Volleyball Kinesiology at Texas A&M. She was the Assistant Varsity Coach at Guyer High School in Denton this past school year. This will be Beth’s first year with Skyline Juniors. We are excited about the knowledge she has to bring to the court as well as her experiences with the recruiting process and furthering an athlete’s career at the collegiate level.

Skyline 17 RoShamBo-Jason

Jason Williams
17 RoShamBo-Jason
Head Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
"Errors win games; let's keep them on the other side of the net. I feel that with proper mechanical training, work ethic, and a high level of focus, all athletes have the ability and opportunity to take their game to the Next Level.  My coaching philosophy is to train ball control, consistency, and smart volleyball.  I like to have all my players learn how to "coach" the game, because the more a player knows about the game, the easier the game is to play."

About Jason:
Prior to joining Skyline, Jason was a director in the North Texas region for 8 years, building and establishing two competitive programs.  Jason brings a wealth of knowledge about the game as well as playing and coaching experience at the National level.  Jason has been a head coach or assistant coach of 4 teams that have finished top 10 at Nationals in both the Open and Club divisions.  Last year, he was an assistant with the bronze medal 16 Open team at Junior Nationals.  Jason's 15s team in 2006 qualified at three Open qualifiers as well as winning the Lone Star qualifier and finishing 5th at 15 Open at Junior Nationals.

Jason went to Plano East HS where he was a 4 sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball, and track).  While playing football as a freshman in college, Jason "found" competitive volleyball and decided that was his athletic future.  Jason began training for outdoor doubles and for the AVP tour as well as learning the indoor game.  Jason coached and played at Baylor University as a setter.  While there, Jason learned the Long Beach State system (a great fundamental/ball control system) from the Baylor Women's coach.  In 1996, Jason was selected to the All-American team at the USA Adult Open Nationals.  He has continued to play competitively at Adult Nationals (with and against several Skyline coaches) and has finished several times in the top 10. Jason is looking forward to his coaching opportunities with Skyline and is hoping that his knowledge of the game will continue to develop the club at the National level.

Cara Synatzske
17 RoShamBo-Jason
Assistant Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
“Work will win when wishing won’t."

About Cara:
Cara grew up in the Carrollton area and attended R.L. Turner High School.  She played varsity volleyball as a setter and varsity softball for four years where she earned all-district titles as well as setter of the year and M.V.P for RLT.  From there she went on to play volleyball at Dallas Baptist University and started as a setter. She quickly realized that her passion was defense and trained to be a DS and then a libero.  During college she coached club volleyball and worked hard at obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.  Immediately upon graduation in December of '02 she started working on a Master of Arts in Counseling and graduated in May of '05.  After that she worked in the foster care/adolescent counseling system for about a year. During that time she felt strongly called to coaching and teaching in the school setting.

Currently she is at Coppell High School and is the JV volleyball coach as well as the varsity assistant.   She is teaching a reading class for dyslexic students.  She loves her job and her passion is developing young athletes and students into strong, disciplined, and passionate individuals.  She is entering her 8th year of coaching club volleyball, her second season with skyline, and is very excited to be a part of the Skyline Juniors Volleyball Program.

Josh Kreuter
14 National Assistant Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
"I want to provide athletes with the opportunity to obtain success and to show them how to work and play as one team, and improve their skills on and off the court. I want players to understand that being successful and a winning team can be accomplished without winning the game. If you give 100% you are still a winner and you won your game.”

About Josh:
Josh graduated from Allen High School in 2000. Throughout his high school years he played club ice hockey where he led his team to many titles and tournament wins. He also played competitive doubles volleyball in the Dallas area where he won four first place titles. Through playing doubles volleyball, Josh has acquired a strong fundamental and positional training background. His coaching career began nine years ago when he started coaching ice hockey. Over the past five years Josh has changed his focus of training and teaching to volleyball. He has worked many camps as well as been very involved with the coach’s training program with Skyline. During the 2006 school season, Josh was head coach for Trinity Christian's 7thA and 8thA volleyball teams. His 7th grade team went undefeated with only losing two games the entire season and his 8th grade team suffered only one match loss for the year. Josh is currently coaching at Bishop Lynch High School where he is the Head Coach for the Junior Varsity team and the Assistant Coach with the Varsity team. His Junior Varsity team is currently undefeated in district. In the 2004-2005 seasons, Josh was a Roamer coach with Skyline and served as an assistant coach for the 16 National team.
