Skyline 18 RoShamBo

Jon Rye
18 RoShamBo Head Coach
Skyline Director

Philosophy:
“Much of what I believe in has been embedded in the Mission and Core Values of the Skyline Organization.  I constantly seek to encourage and instruct my athletes as often as possible.  I see myself not only as a coach but as a ‘trainer”; a trainer of fundamentals, disciplines and responsibilities.  It is my goal to teach my athletes to play hard no matter who their opponent is while always reinforcing the importance of keeping the game fun and enjoyable.”  My favorite quote is from Colleen Hacker…”The object in any team sport is to transform the group from a mere collection of talented individuals into a highly cohesive unit so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

About Jon:

Jon has qualified 8 teams for Junior Olympic Nationals in the last 8 years.  Last year Jon lead his 14 RoShamBo team to a third place finish at the Lone Star Qualifier earning an Open Division berth into USAV Junior Olympic Nationals where they finished 11th in the nation.  This will be Jon’s tenth year with Skyline.

Landon Carpenter
18 RoShamBo
Assistant Coach

Philosophy:
"I would like to instill in my players a love for the game while at the same time pushing them to be the best players, teammates, and people they can be, maintaining a strong, competitive desire to win."

About Landon:
Landon Carpenter graduated from Texas A&M University in August of 2003 where he was the President, Captain, and player coach for the Texas A&M Men's Volleyball Team. The team had great success through his five year tenure, finishing top ten at Nationals four years straight, including two trips to the semi finals and a very close loss to the undefeated defending national champions Arizona. Landon along with two other Aggies received All-American honors in 2002 during that final four finish. Landon also received All-conference honors every season with the team, and A&M won conference under Landon's setting leadership four of his five seasons.  The team also won in 2006 under his coaching leadership, with the team finishing in the top ten. He continues to play for the AA men's USAV team Next, a team that has accomplished much in their four year existence. Next has never finished less than 7th in the nation and in 2007, the team made it to the finals with their highest finish ever at 2nd.

Landon has been with Skyline since January of 2004 when he started graduate school at Dallas Baptist University, completing his masters in Christian education with a Youth Ministry focus in May of 2006. He is putting that Masters to use as a student ministry associate at Park Cities Baptist Church, working with junior high and high school students. He also has coached at The Greenhill School as the varsity assistant the last three seasons with the team winning SPC in 2006.  Landon is going into his sixth season with Skyline.  The past two years he has qualified both of his RoShamBo teams for Nationals.  Landon has also been the head coach for 18 National 2 years, qualifying his team one of those years, and served as a roamer prior to that..  He is looking forward with high expectations to the 2008 season where he has high expectations and goals.

Jodie Rye
Skyline Director
18 RoShamBo
Assistant Coach

Coaching Philosophy:
"I strongly believe that the foundation of a team comes from the coach's enthusiasm, attitude, training, intensity and encouragement. A positive attitude and encouragement will help to develop a player's confidence and team unity. Intensity will create focus during training situations which will carry on to the court to help the team be prepared for the intense, advanced matches. To develop a national caliber team, defense will be of most importance with an emphasis on team strategies along with training the fundamentals."

Becca Smajstrla
18 Molten Head Coach

Philosophy:
“I want to help athletes who give everything they have in practices and matches so they never have to say ’woulda, shoulda, coulda’. She received a full scholarship to Navarro Junior College where she was an All-Conference Selection both years as an outside hitter. After Navarro, she went to St. Edward’s University and played libero for a semester. She then finished her playing career at Texas Weslayan University.
